Enter your initial capital and/or your regular monthly savings level. Then enter the average annual rate of interest obtainable on these savings, as well as the current rate of inflation (i.e. average increase in prices). We have suggested 6% interest and 3% inflation, but these fields can be changed as appropriate. The calculator will estimate the number of years required to achieve your monetary goal and the amount's value in today’s terms after inflation. This calculator is closely related to the savings calculator.
For example, assume you have £10,000 of initial capital and can afford savings of £400 per month. You estimate that the annual rate of interest will be 6% on average and inflation will be 3% a year. Your target amount is £500,000. The calculator estimates the goal will take less than 35 years and that by this time it would be worth £251,962.46 in today’s money adjusted for inflation. |
